kCura Partners with CTRL to Propel the Use of Technology in the Practice of Law
As CTRL’s new sponsor, kCura will help drive meaningful educational initiatives–including sessions at the upcoming e-discovery conference, Relativity Fest–to advance technology in the legal field. CHICAGO, August 17, 2016 – kCura, developers of the e-discovery software Relativity, today announced that they are joining forces with the Coalition of Technology Resources for Lawyers (CTRL), an open source community for legal practitioners, to advance the discussion on the use of technology in legal space. "We are happy to welcome kCura as our newest sponsor, helping us further drive the adoption of technology in this profession," said Philip J. Favro, director of legal education and resources at CTRL. "kCura’s support allows us to keep empowering the legal community to learn about and use enabling technologies, and share their successes with each other." Committed to the development of practical and proactive technology guidelines for lawyers, CTRL is also recognized for its in-depth research of advanced analytics for corporate counsel. CTRL’s most recent study showed the vast majority of practitioners (93%) believe analytics will be critical to the practice of law over the next decade. The research also confirmed that nearly one-third of legal departments are already using analytics for information governance (IG)–a sign that IG may be advancing more quickly than expected. In partnership with kCura, CTRL will present at Relativity Fest in Chicago on October 9-11. CTRL’s session, "The New IG Playbook for Addressing Threats from Personal Clouds, Cyber Attacks, and the Internet of Things" will focus on best practices for addressing electronic threats around IG. CTRL also recently published their new 2016 Guidelines Regarding the Use of Technology-Assisted Review. The 2016 Guidelines build on the inaugural Guidelines published in 2014, which considered some of the divisive issues surrounding the use of technology-assisted review (TAR). Recently cited by one of the leading authorities on civil discovery issues, the Guidelines focus on defensible TAR workflows, whether counsel should disclose its use of TAR, and the merits of entering into a stipulated TAR use protocol. The 2016 Guidelines expand on various aspects of these issues to help outside counsel, in-house lawyers, and judges gain a better understanding of the burgeoning use of TAR. "Since its emergence, CTRL has been known for driving the adoption of advanced analytics in the practice of law and helping practitioners stay ahead of the curve," said Dean Gonsowski, vice president of business development at kCura. "We’re excited to collaborate further with CTRL by providing insightful research and educational initiatives that will empower the entire legal community." Relativity Fest 2016 will be held October 9-11 in Chicago, IL. To learn more about Relativity Fest and how to participate, visit https://relativityfest.com/. ###### About kCura Recognized as a Leader Gartner’s 2015 E-Discovery Magic Quadrant, kCura are the developers of the e-discovery software Relativity.
